Development and Communication Officer

Signpost to Polish Success (SPS) is a charitable company (Registered Charity No. 1126928, Company No. 6693843) based in Nottingham. We provide a range of services for Eastern European migrants who arrived in the UK after the EU enlargement in 2004.

We are looking for a motivated and creative Development and Communication Officer to join our small team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Polish and Eastern European communities while developing your skills in community engagement, communications, and volunteer coordination.

About the Role

You will support the delivery of SPS services by helping with:

•              organising workshops and family events,

•              recruiting and supporting volunteers,

•              preparing promotional materials,

•              contributing to project monitoring and reporting,

•              assisting with the publication of our community newspaper East Midlands po Polsku,

•              managing social media content.

What We’re Looking For

•              Fluency in Polish and English (spoken and written)

•              Confidence in using IT, Microsoft Office, and social media

•              Ability to work independently and as part of a team

•              Contract: Fixed term until end of June 2026 (with the possibility of extension)

The successful candidate will have to complete a four-month probationary period.

Job Description

Job Title: Development and Communication Officer

Location: Signpost to Polish Success (SPS), Nottingham

Hours – 1 day per week, 8 hours including a 30-minute unpaid break (can be divided between 2 days) with the possibility of increased hours and contract extension

Salary: £23,573 pro rata per annum

Responsible to: SPS Manager

Contract type: Fixed term until end of June 2026 (subject to funding, with the possibility of extension)

Purpose of the Post

The Development and Communication Officer will play a key role in supporting the work of SPS through communications, community engagement, and volunteer coordination. The postholder will contribute to the delivery of SPS services, including assisting with organising events and workshops, liaising with volunteers, and providing administrative support, publishing the East Midlands po Polsku newspaper, managing social media.

This role promotes community cohesion, intercultural dialogue, and positive engagement between Eastern European residents and the wider Nottingham community.

The responsibilities will be delivered progressively and at different stages during the course of employment, rather than all at once.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Engagement and Development

•              Support the delivery of multicultural workshops, family events, and outreach activities.

•              Promote participation across Polish, Eastern European, and wider Nottingham communities.

•              Collaborate with community groups, volunteers, and partner organisations.

Volunteer Coordination

•              Recruit, support, and coordinate volunteers for SPS projects and events.

•              Provide clear role descriptions, guidance, and supervision.

•              Encourage skills development and recognise volunteer contributions.

Communications and Media

•              Contribute to the publication of East Midlands po Polsku (researching, writing, proofreading, sourcing photos).

•              Manage SPS’s social media channels and website (WordPress, Facebook, YouTube).

•              Produce and distribute printed and digital promotional materials.

•              Develop and maintain advertising relationships for East Midlands po Polsku.

Events and Activities

•              Assist with planning and delivery of workshops, family events, ESOL & IT courses, Coffee Mornings and community projects.

•              Support logistics, promotion, and volunteer coordination for events.

Administration, Monitoring and Reporting

•              Collect monitoring data, feedback, and evaluation evidence.

•              Assist in preparing reports for funders and SPS trustees.

•              Maintain accurate records in line with SPS and funder requirements.

•              Provide general administrative support, including preparing agendas and minutes (training provided).

Other Duties

•              Actively contribute to the delivery of all SPS services.

•              Demonstrate a commitment to equality, inclusion, and community cohesion.

•              Work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends.

•              Undertake any other duties relevant to the role.

•              Contribute to fundraising activities and development of new project ideas.

•             Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.

Person Specification

Essential
