Communication and Development Officer
Signpost to Polish Success (SPS) is a charitable company (Registered Charity No. 1126928, Company
No. 6693843) based in Nottingham. We provide a wide range of services for Eastern European
migrants who arrived in the UK following the EU enlargement in 2004.
We are looking for a motivated and creative Communication and Development Officer to join our
small team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of Polish and Eastern
European communities, while developing skills in communications, community engagement and
volunteer coordination.
About the Role
You will support the delivery of SPS services by:
– assisting with the publication of our community newspaper East Midlands po Polsku (EMpP);
– managing social media content, including the EMpP Facebook profile and the www.empp.co.uk website;
– preparing promotional and communication materials;
– liaising with EMpP advertisers and coordinating administrative work related to advertising;
– assisting with the organisation of workshops and family events;
– recruiting, supporting, and coordinating volunteers;
– contributing to project monitoring and reporting.
What We’re Looking For
– Fluency in Polish and English (spoken and written)
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills
– Confidence in using IT, including Microsoft Office, WordPress, graphic design software, and
social media
– Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
– Commitment to equality, diversity, and community cohesion

The successful candidate will be required to complete a four-month probationary period.

Purpose of the Post
The Communication and Development Officer will play a key role in supporting the work of Signpost
to Polish Success (SPS). The role includes contributing to the publication of East Midlands po Polsku
(EMpP), managing relationships with advertisers, managing the www.empp.co.uk website and EMpP
social media channels, supporting community engagement activities, and coordinating volunteers.
The postholder will contribute to the delivery of SPS services, including organising events and
workshops, supporting volunteers, and assisting with project monitoring and reporting.
The role promotes community cohesion, intercultural dialogue, and positive engagement between
Eastern European residents and the wider Nottingham community.
Responsibilities will be introduced progressively during the course of employment and will not be
delivered all at once.
Key Responsibilities
Communications and Media
– Contribute to the publication of East Midlands po Polsku (researching information, writing
articles, proofreading, and sourcing photographs).
– Demonstrate an interest in local, national, and community news relevant to Polish and
Eastern European communities.
– Manage SPS and EMpP social media channels and website (including WordPress, Facebook,
and YouTube).
– Produce and distribute printed and digital promotional materials.
– Develop and maintain advertising relationships for East Midlands po Polsku.
– Complete administrative work related to advertising, including producing and sending
invoices to EMpP advertising partners.
Community Engagement and Development
– Support the delivery of multicultural workshops, family events, and outreach activities.
– Promote participation across Polish, Eastern European, and wider Nottingham communities.
– Work collaboratively with community groups, volunteers, and partner organisations.
Volunteer Coordination
– Recruit, support, and coordinate volunteers for SPS projects and events.
– Provide clear role descriptions, guidance, and appropriate supervision.
– Encourage skills development and recognise volunteer contributions.
Events and Activities
– Assist with the planning and delivery of workshops, family events, ESOL and IT courses,
coffee mornings, and community projects.
– Support event logistics, promotion, and volunteer coordination.
Administration, Monitoring and Reporting
– Collect monitoring data, feedback, and evaluation evidence.
– Assist in preparing reports for funders and SPS trustees.
– Maintain accurate records in line with SPS and funder requirements.
– Provide general administrative support to the organisation.
Other Duties
– Actively contribute to the delivery of all SPS services.
